Weekly Report #4 | 2307 - Smooth Adaptation and a Good Start

Review of the Week#

This week was a good start. With the arrival of spring and the rising temperatures, we can finally travel freely again. Everything indicates that this is a good beginning, both for the new year and for this new phase of my life.

Yesterday, I watched a movie called "Autumn Story" by Hou Mai. What impressed me the most about this film was its picturesque scenes, showcasing the beautiful and romantic landscapes of France. My favorite part was the opening scene where Isabella and Magali were chatting in the countryside. The relaxed atmosphere and the wonderful environment that only close friends can enjoy truly made it a delightful moment. It was truly marvelous. A good movie can really uplift one's mood. Therefore, I plan to make time to watch a movie at least every two weeks, to catch up on those films that I've always wanted to watch but never had the time or energy for. I want to experience the same emotions that the movie evokes.

I have gradually realized that the reason my plans always fall through is due to my frivolousness and laziness. I always focus on acquiring new knowledge and skills to achieve my goals, but I fail to appreciate and respect what I already have. After watching a movie, I simply record that I've watched it without truly understanding it, and then move on to the next one. Even for those great movies, I haven't written anything to show even a tiny bit of respect. The same goes for books and music. I can't continue like this anymore. If I can't accept things in a respectful manner, it is a disrespect to both others' lives and my own time.

Writing is indeed a painful task, but I believe that it is this pain that gives value to my words. These words are the medium through which I express respect for the world. They break through all my laziness and frivolousness, and speak of the sweetness of life.

You must believe that all of this is valuable, even without the recognition of others. You must persevere.

Explorations of the Week#

Work#

This week, I started learning the basic skills of a UX designer and found some free articles and courses online. The most unsettling part of this process is not being able to assess my own learning progress. Therefore, what I need to do next is to apply these skills to actual projects and validate my learning achievements. While reading articles, I realized that I haven't found a web annotation tool that suits my needs. The tools I have tried so far do not meet my expectations for clipping and annotating web pages. Currently, my requirements are:

  1. When encountering unfamiliar English words on a webpage, highlight them and provide an option for annotation. Clicking on the option should provide the English definition and the paragraph in which the word appears, and store this information in a specific format.
  2. When I want to annotate a paragraph, highlight it and provide an option for annotation. Clicking on the option should store the annotation in a specific format.
  3. The configuration for the specific format should be intuitive and easy to use.
I have tried using SimpRead as a read-later software for a while, but I don't find it satisfactory. It always fails to work properly and the configuration is too complicated. It's not worth the trouble to tinker with it just to meet my simple needs.

In conclusion, in order to enhance my UX design skills and apply the little frontend knowledge I have acquired, I want to invest my time in this valuable endeavor. It will be an open-source project, and what I need to do is to manage my time well, learn, think, and create. This concludes my weekly report.
